This is where the real work begins. Up to this point you’ve had control of everything, but now it is time to do the work and wait for the results.

Step 3.1 Spread the News

Since you wrote the bulk of your content in step one, its time to start putting it to use. To make this easier, I will break it into days

Day 1

Add Google Analytics so that you can see where your visitors are coming from.

Submit 3 articles to ezinearticles each under a different category so that they dont compete.

Add your URL to be indexed at Google, Yahoo!, and MSN.

Day 4

Submit 3 articles to ezinearticles each under a different category so that they dont compete.

Day 7

Submit the 4 remaining articles each under a different category

Step 3.2 Adding the Ads

I’ve heard from various sources that adding adsense before you are indexed will slow down the time it takes for your page to get indexed. The solution, wait 1 week before you add ads.
Use the following guides to help you add adsense:

How to Sign Up for Adsense.

How To Put Adsense into your WordPress layout.

Good Places to put Adsense.

Picking the Right Size Ads

For some people adsense isn’t the best option. Feel free to take a look at the Adsense Alternatives section.

When a website isn’t making money through ads, its best to find money by other means. A great thing to do is participate in the Pay Per Post service. This service brings advertisers and bloggers together.

How it works

1st: Sign Up

The sign up process is very straight forward. Two things that are annoying about the sign up is the fact that they require you’re tax ID, and that you have a payPal account (that is the only payment method they offer).

2nd: Analyze your blog

After you register, you have to submit your blog or blogs for review. Only three things will keep your blog from being accepted:

Your Blog is not at least 90 days old.

Your Blog doesnt have at least 20 Posts in the last 90 days.

There at time where there was 30+ days without a post.

If your blog meets these requirements your ready to begin finding opportunities.

3rd: Choose an Opportunity

After your blog has been approved, you will be able to select an opportunity. For example:

4th: Profit

Once you have created the post in the manner the advertiser would like you to, It will be thirty days before you will recieve your payment. The payments have been proven to go through without a problem, and you recieve the full amount, meaning they dont deduct paypal fees.

While this service isnt the best for everyone. it works well for the blogs that you’ve had for a long time that aren’t earning money through other means. To read more about pay per post, visit PimpMyPageRank

Everyone wants to maximize the amount of ad clicks they recieve. One of the best ways to do this is by placing the ads in a good place.

Having experimented with ad placement, I have learned about a few hotspots that will boost the amount of clicks you recieve.

Ad Hot Spots

Near your Header - People look at the top of there screen often. When experimenting with ad placement, I have found that these ads recieve the most activity. While this location does recieve a large amount of activity, it can sometimes hurt your website design, and thus your users experience.

At the top of an Article - When a person reads or is looking to read an article, the first thing they put their focus on is the title of the article. By placing an ad directly under the title of an article the ads are seen very often.

Near Images - Placing ads near images greatly increases the amount of clicks an ad receives, it is a natural draw. An example and guide on how to set this up can be found on here. Google has declared that this is against their terms of service.

On the Sidebar - While this is not the best place for ads, they recieve a fair amount of activity when they are intermingled with other links.

The following image can be found on Adsense optimization tips page.

Equally Important as putting ads in good places is, picking the right size for your ads

When you’re placing your ads its crucial that you chose the right size.

Things to keep in mind

Will it affect my design? - Obviously you don’t want to pick a ad size that would in any way destroy your users experience. While it is good to make the ads noticeable, it is bad when users come to your page and cannot access the content they came there for because ads are covering the text.

What will fit where? - It is important to maximize the amount of ads in each space. Be aware of the ad sizes.

Size Tips

Mix it up - Constant exposure to the same kind of ad in the same location can cause users to be blind to your ads. Changing the location of ads on your page every 3 months while prevent ad blindness.

Use new ads sizes - Several sizes have been overdone. Stay away from horizontal banner ads sizes such as 468×80, 468×60. While they work ok, vertical banners have been receiving more clicks. Hot sizes include 336×280, 300×250, 160×600

Use new ad formats - while it is sometimes smart to blend your ads by using text links and appropriate colors, there is times that you want them to stand out. One of the best way to make your ads stand out is by using an ad format that people dont see to often, such as the new video ads

Today I stumbled upon an article that I feel would be useful to anyone who is trying to attract visitors to their website (who isn’t).

It makes three very crucial points. The first is that fact that if you want to have a good Google page rank you need to have what the searcher is looking for, good content.

The next point is about making that content accessible. People with all kinds of browsers need to be able to read your content. Search engines use a robot that doesnt understand and see a page the way we would see it. It is necessary to make your content as accessible as possible by limiting the use of flash, images of text (without alt text or caption), and iframes.

The last but equally important point is telling others about your content. This means getting involved in forums around the net, and providing links to your site. It doesnt have to be a forum specifically about your topic, just getting more visitors to your site will help your Google page rank.

Welcome to what will be the ultimate guide to creating a money making website. I will show you step by step how to create a website that can earn you money. I will make steps as easy as possible, but I expect at least a little technical knowledge.

Know What Your Doing

The first and most important part of this process is knowing what you are going to be creating. do a quick google search for any hot niche topic, and you will find the type of website you will be creating.

There are many resources out there to help you figure out what your doing.
My favorite resources are:

Digital Point - A great forum for asking questions and looking for guides about marketing, Search engine optimization, and <http://forums.digitalpoint.com/forumdisplay.php?f=15>general web design</http:>.

SeoPedia.org - A blog created by internet marketing specialist Cristian Mezei. This is a great place to read up on marketing tips, search engine optimization, and advertising options.

Entrepreneurs’s Journey - Entrepreneur’s Journey was created by Yaro Starak, of Australia who makes his money online. His site features several articles about his experiences and guides to developing money making websites. If you are going to persue making money online, read this article.

KeywordAvalance - While I have personally never used this source, I have heard that it is well worth the money, providing its users with in depth guides about everything it takes to create a money making website. If you are not 100% serious about making money using advertisments, don’t pay for this source!

Figure Out Your Niche

If you ever want to make money with a website, you will need to stand out to your visitors and give them what they are looking for, so that they might click on a advertisement.

You will need to find and think out a topic that people are looking for.
For a topic to work, it needs to feature the following:

At least 3 subtopics to explore and discuss so that you will have plenty to write about. and attract a variety of visitors interested in your topic.

The desire to follow the topic for at least one month, and write a new article about it about twice a week.

The ability to beat the competition and become the top topic when a user searchs for your topic.

If you cant think of a good niche yourself, the following websites and tools can help:

NicheBot - Finds what people are looking, good keyword research. (if anyone knows a free open source alternative let me know)

Liz Strauss’ Guide to finding a Niche - This article gives five+1 helpful tips to finding a niche that will work for you.

Preparing your content

Before you start worrying about getting a website on the internet, you need to plan your approach. By doing this your site can be ready to run from the time it hits the net. Before your website goes live you need to do the following:

Have at least 10 or so 200 to 500 word articles before you start. This does not include fluff pages such as privacy police and copyright page.

Plan your domain name - keyword domain names arent as big as they used to be. for example, if your website was about finding theraphy, therapistfinder.com isn’t a good idea for multiple reasons. Instead, choose a name that will “brand” your website, something that says what your about.

Plan keywords that people might use to search for your topic and plan articles based around those.

Find website related to your topic, and ask to exchange links (provide a link to their site and they will do the same).

On to Step 2

Now that you have a plan, its time to build your site.

Now that you have completed the initial planning required to create a niche money making website, its time to bring it to the internet and make it a reality.

To make this sometimes complicated step simpler, I will break it into parts.

Step 2.1 Finding a Webhost

For the computer illiterate, this step involving domains and servers is often confusing. If you understand how the internet works and know what kind of service you need, or have completed this step previously, feel free to skip this section.

While some people prefer to buy webspace and domains separately, I feel like it is easier to manage multiple websites from an all in one service such as 1and1. For 3 dollars a month, they will give you 5 gigabytes of space (more than enough for at least 100+ websites), 10 databases (You will see why this is important later in the guide), and 250 gigabytes of monthly bandwidth (amount of data that can be sent and recieved each month). There are many other great alternatives, feel free to leave a comment about providers you suggest and I add them the list of webhosts.

Step 2.2 Creating your Website

Now that you have purchased webspace, its time to put it to use. lets begin by downloading the parts that we will be using for our website.

WordPress - A content management system that will make it really easy to add pages, links, and manage your website design.

FileZilla - A decent open source FTP Program. You can use any FTP program you like. I prefer FlashFXP.

Wordpress setup:

Install your FTP program of choice (If you cant do this by yourself, email me).

Connect to your website with the username and password provided by your webspace provider (If this wasn’t given to you, call customer service and ask, they love to help you).

Unzip the wordpress zip file you downloaded earlier.

Open the folder and right click on the file named “wp-config-sample.php” and click rename and rename the file to “wp-config.php”

Right click on the file now named “wp-config.php” and then click “open with…” in the dialog box that pops up select WordPad.

Minimize the file that is now opened in WordPad

Go to and login to the administration panel of your webspace provider, if your following in my footsteps and registered with 1and1, here.
These next few steps are 1and1 specific and will vary depending on your service

In the “Administration” tab of the administration panel, click “MySQL Administration” in the “Websites & Applications” section.

Click “New Database” and for the description of your database put the topic of your website.

Go back to the file that you minimized previously and replace “wordpress” with the Database name provided, ie. “db192910739″.

Replace “username” with the User name provided, ie. “dbo192910739″.

Replace “password” with the Password provided, ie. “kHhX4ax3″.

Replace “localhost” with the Host name provided, ie. “db621.perfora.net”

Save the file and close it.

Go up one directory and rename the “wordpress” folder to a word or acronym that defines your website topic.

Upload the folder that you just renamed to your webspace using your FTP program. This may take a while.

Go back to the Administration Panel and click Domains

Click on the domain you are working on.

Click the “edit” button next to “Destination”

For “Home Directory” select “Existing directory”

For “Existing directory” select /yourRenamedWordpressFolder

Click the “Ok” button to save the settings

Go to your website url. ie. “http://moneytaryweb.com” and click the link to “install.php”

Follow the installation steps, it is very simple

Take note of your username and password, then click the link to “wp-login.php”

For simplicity sake, we will now change the password. After you have logged in, click “Users” and update the information as you feel neccesary.

Congratulations Wordpress setup is complete. If you go to your website url you will now see the default wordpress blog.

If you want to take the time you can now install what I deem necessary WordPress Add-ons or plugins.

Step 2.3 Choosing a Template

Now that you have Wordpress setup, the personalization begins. We will start by finding a theme for our website.

Templates can be downloaded from:

ThemeViewer - The offical WordPress Theme archive.

Alex King’s WordPress Theme Browser - A large variety of Themes that can easily be browsed.

Kaushal Sheth’s WordPress Themes - Many decent themes.

How To Install a Template:

Once you have found a Theme that suits your website, download it and unzip it if necessary.

Open your FTP program and connect to your website

Open your “wordpress” folder

Open the “wp-content” folder

Open the “themes” folder

Upload your downloaded Theme to the “themes” folder

Go to your WordPress Administration Panel. ie. “http://yourUrl.com/wp-admin/”

Once you’ve logged in, click Presentation

Click on the theme you downloaded

Check to see if the change took effect by clicking “View site”

Step 2.4 Putting in Content

Now That we have our site looking the way we want, its time to start putting in the content.
The following guides will help you through the process:

How to add a post

How to edit/delete a link from the sidebar

On to Step 3
